A Letter from the Pastors

Dear Friend,

The privilege of serving as pastors of Glendale Baptist Church: a caring community of equality and grace, is one of life’s great joys for us. This congregation is as curious as we are. They are willing to risk; they are quick to forgive; they are broadly informed; they are fun. We are having the time of our lives.

One of the things that keeps Glendale fresh and engaging is the continual addition of people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Metaphors that we use to describe ourselves as a congregation include a hospital, a zoo, the island of misfit toys, a grand party, an expedition. Sometimes people light for a season and then move along to other landing points. We take seriously the practice of being a place where people can recover from religious abuse that they have experienced in other places. In other words, while it’s a lot of things, it’s never boring around here, and we appreciate that.

It is our hope that when you visit Glendale for the first time, you’ll find the welcome to be both very warm and very genuine. We hope that when you come to visit again, you’ll realize that you already have friends here. Do come and see if this is a place where you can learn and grow, where you can be affirmed for exactly who you are, where you can laugh and grieve and connect. We’ll be so glad to meet you.
