I joined the pastoral staff of Glendale in 2002, fresh from a stint in the corporate world and twelve years out of seminary. Believe it or not, both of those experiences were valuable preparation for pastoral ministry. On any given day projects need managing, email issues arise, opportunities for partnering in the community show up, and people wrangle with biblical and theological ideas and claims as they try to live faithfully to the calling of the Holy. I’m grateful for an engaged and lively church that seeks ways to live out its calling creatively and with invitation for all to join in.
My wife Deborah and I find great joy in the outdoors. We love spending time at the beach and camping in the mountains. On a warm evening you’re likely to find us in kayaks on the lake, wandering a trail through the forest, or simply sitting on the deck watching the birds in the backyard. When I’m inside, I’m often at my loom trying a new weaving pattern or creating something to use at home or give as a gift. Maybe I should say “one of my looms” – I’ve been told it’s a bit of an obsession.
