Emmie's Trail Course

7/16/2010

Oh, what a lovely morning it was--clear skies, and warm sun, and fresh breeze.  And the staff and almost all of this week's seminar participants--probably 45 or 50 people--gathered after breakfast at the corral to dedicate Emmie's Trail Course.  In gratitude for Em and for the contributions made to Ring Lake Ranch in her memory, they have named the trail course, an obstacle course for horse and rider, for Emmie.  The rider fetches the mail out of the mailbox, rides it over hill and dale, rock and log (the intrepid get a nice jump over the log), past the petroglyphs and up the cliff and through the puddle and drop the mail in the scarecrow's front pocket, then back into the corral.  As part of the dedication, the whole crowd of us walked the course behind Julie, Emmie's favorite horse, whom Lara led through the obstacles.  One lovely participant played the wood flute, another led us in a hymn, the spirits were invoked and thanked for the gift of Emmie's life, and it was an honor to be here and to have known and loved her.

I thought again of the miracle of loving community, who holds and weeps and laughs and heals with us.  Wish that you all could have been with us this morning.  This afternoon, the riders have laughed and huffed and cajoled and pressured their horses through the trail course with much adventure and joking and horsey good-naturedness.  It is a blessed place to be.  In fact, we have decided to remain at Ring Lake another 5 days where some can rest a little more (okay, where I can rest a little more) and not do quite so much driving through the southwest  and camp-pitching as we had originally planned.  We'll catch Bryce Canyon and Zion and those wonderful places on another trip, and stay in this healing place just awhile longer.

Much love on this Friday afternoon.

Amy

    Pausing and Being
Yes, Amy, I think you're wise to pause for awhile in this very special place and with these very special people--and take time just to be, and to be with them. Mingling spirits in that place that Emmie loved seems a far better choice than more driving and making camp, which must be rather wearying by now.

All of your blog posts are wonderful; thank you for including us in your journey. ("We are travellers on a journey, fellow pilgrims on the road; we are here to help each other, walk the mile and bear the load.") And to bear/share the love and the loveliness, too.

    Reflecting AND Wonder
We are so taken with the reports of your journey through summer and the USA. All reports have been read with pleasure, then reflected and wondered upon. Today's post about Emmie's Trail Course has been especially meaningful. What an appropriate place to carry her name and the memory of our special little girl. Thanks to you all for sharing your travels and experiences, and for doing it in such readable and enjoyable posts.
Last night as I looked at the crescent moon and the somewhat dim stars in the West Kentucky sky (at the farm) I thought about you all, hoping that you would, likewise, be enjoying seeing that same crescent moon, but with the brilliance of the stars in that big, big sky in that part of the USA where you are . . . and that blessings would continue to shower upon you as you round out your journey through the rest of summer and this WONDER-full world.

    With love to you all,
    Ms. Rose (and Mr. Don)

Your beautiful words and good choice to stay!
You are much on our minds at the Walker house, and we are remembering you often. It was so good of you to let us share your time at Emmie's special place and to know about her Trail. I think it was good for you to choose to stop and just "be" for a while. We want you to have every bit of wonder and every beautiful place you feel like seeing, but we also know that you are bright enough to know when to stop. (At least most of the time!) Thanks for keeping us posted, and come back soon to tell us all about it in person. Love to the entire family. Beth

    Many, many thanks!
For the wonderful writing you continue to share with the Glendale family!
I will just say AMEN to the above responses that were pretty close to what I felt about your sharing your most recent experiences.
