Danny's Story

6/25/2010

Hello, Friends and Family!  We are having a terrific time in Glacier National Park.  (We British speakers call it "Glossier."  Like David Attenborough pronounces it on the Planet Earth videos.)  The moose count stands at 4 bull moose.  No cows or calves.

The first moose we saw was on the road to Many Glacier campground.  We saw it walking in the water of the river from the road higher up on the mountain.  It was very cool.  (Mom spotted it.) The second moose we saw from our balcony at Many Glacier Hotel.  It came into the lake from the creek, swam all the way across the lake, climbed out on the other side and shook itself like a dawg.  It had massive antlers.  It was tremendously cool.  Danny made the spot.

The third moose Lara told you about in her story.  We saw it for the longest amount of time--about 20 minutes.  When it turned and started coming toward us, we all froze, put down out binoculars, and didn't say a word, wondering what it would do next. But it just snorkeled out of the lake, climbed out and was on its way about 20 yards from us.  It was outstandingly cool.  Lara made the spot.

The fourth moose we call "Main Street Moose."  You guessed it.  Because it came down the shoreline right into the town of Waterton.  You should've seen those deer and tourists run from that enormous bull moose!  It ran right through town and as we were in the middle of a crosswalk, with cars stopped on either side, the moose turned and started running toward us.  We all turned around and went back to the other side of the street, fried-chicken picnic in hand.  But it turned and ran down a sidewalk and we saw several chefs running out their restaurants, waving their tongs, saying, "Did you see that moose behind my restaurant??!!"  (Obvious french accents.)

We got into our car and went to a park on the other end of the lake for our picnic.  That was our second moose of the day, spotted by all of us.  The picture is of us at the peace pole in the park on the lakefront in Waterton Village.  The moose had already made his peace.

Hope everybody's doing well.  I hear that it's very hot there--wish you could feel these cool 40-degree nights we're enjoying under blankets in the RV!

Peace out~

Danny

    peace out yourself
I have never seen a live moose. They are really big, aren't they? I am laughing at you in your sweat shirts and shorts. You know I would be wrapped up or at least have on jean and a coat. I can't wait to hear about your adventures. Be sure to take pics and journal. We'll make a scrapbook of your adventures when you get home. We could even write a book like the wimpy kid books, huh? U & dad be sweet to the girls. Love U to pieces.
