Sioux City Summary

6/16/2010

Lara:  I slept pretty much all day yesterday as we drove along.  We left at 11pm on Monday night and drove all the way to South Dakota!  We're going through the Badlands and to the Black HIlls today.  My favorite state so far was Iowa.

Danny:  Hello.  My favorite part of the western adventure so far has been just as the sky started to get light yesterday we saw the St. Louis arch come into view over the night skyline.  It was awesome.  Now it's off to, well, wherever we go next.  I have also had the pleasure to chug the last of several milk cartons and Coke Zero 2-liters so that we don't have to squash the jugs into the cooler.

David:  About 24 hours of driving is everything I expected it to be.  RV travel is comfortable and enjoyable.  I'm looking forward to our destination in Glacier National Park.

Mia:  Sleeping over the driver's seat in an rv is kind of fun!  I've seen a lot of corn growing and it makes me want to live on a farm!  We saw awesome power windmills and they were really BIG!  Like the ones on TeleTubbies.

Amy:  I think that we could get used to the rv life!  This little rental unit is very comfortable to sleep in, but it's pretty loud when it's on the move.  Think school bus.  We've pointed out lots of ballparks and stadiums, windmills, red-winged blackbirds, and other interesting things.  The Queen Anne's Lace is beautiful in this South Dakota campground. We're about to turn left (that would be WEST) and cross this state.  Looking forward to seeing a bit of the Badlands (and getting our National Park Passports stamped), Mt. Rushmore, the Crazy Horse monument, and camping near the Custer State Park tonight.

    Fun, fun and fun!
That sounds like a bunch of fun!! Is there anything bad about this trip? I hope not because we (as in the whole church) want you to have as much fun as possible!

    hi!
hey - you guys are about to drive through my old stomping grounds!!! I lived in Montana from the time I was 4 until I was 18. Badlands and BlackHills, huh? Did you go to Wall Drug and the corn palace in Mitchell? Great South Dakota tourist traps. :)

The trip across Montana to Glacier will seem never-ending. It's quite a wide state LOL. Keep your eye on the gas gauge, the towns get few and far between. :)

    Iowa
I'm glad you like Iowa, Lara. My Dad was from Audubon, Iowa which is just north of I-80 in the western part of the state. I used to love to visit the farms, ride tractors, play in the creek, etc.

    Never been there
You are so lucky to go there. I've never been to SD or ND or Montana. Poppy asked "was the corn as high as an elephant's eye?" Bring home lots of memories. We love you.

    South Dakoda tornadoes
Know today has been an interesting day for you all. So much to see! Praying the tornadoes that touched down in SD weren't in your path!
    Love, love, love

I am so glad you all are having a great adventure! Amy, did you enjoy "The Trail of Tears"? Thomas' class did that play this past year-he was Thomas Jefferson!
    Safe travels!

    Iowa
I had always loved Iowa when i lived there. In the winter I could go to the Mississippi River and see Bald Eagles. It was cool. That was the best part of moving so much as a kid....seeing new and interesting sites.

Wishing you all safe and exciting travels.
