"...to build an inclusive Christian community that affirms the worth of all persons..."
Becoming a member at Glendale is an intentional process. A prospective member's first indication of interest in Glendale is likely to be casual, not formal. Casual interest in Glendale may be expressed to present members through questions about the church and/or by attendance at Sunday School, Wednesday night dinner and services, or Sunday worship. The membership process includes several specific steps including the following:
A prospective member publicly states the desire to become a candidate for membership by profession of faith and baptism, by transfer of letter from another church, or by affirmation of faith when the candidate is not an active member of another church.
The Membership Division assigns a sponsor, whose primary responsibility is to guide the candidate through the membership process. Sponsors may answer questions, provide needed information, facilitate the candidate's placement in the educational programs of the church and/or in a position of service, and provide ministry for the candidate in response to personal needs.
A series of orientation activities is offered for those who have expressed interest in membership at Glendale. These activities are designed to give new member candidates an opportunity to learn about the mission and ministry of Glendale. Member candidates are encouraged to explore ways they can engage in the life and ministry of the church.
