For the past couple of months, Glendalers have prayed for our friends at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC, especially Pastor Nancy Petty and members of the Pullen youth, as they took an active role in speaking out against recent changes at Wake County Public Schools. As a result of their civil disobedience in opposing the re-zoning of the Wake County Public Schools and the elimination of the school system's diversity policy, Nancy, three Pullen youth members and family member, as well as other civil rights leaders, have been arrested at school board meetings throughout this past summer.

On Friday, October 29 at 5:30 PM, you are invited to Glendale Baptist Church for "Conversations and Reflections on Segregation in our Schools: Yesterday and Today." Former Glendale pastor, Richard Smith, and Pullen Memorial Baptist youth member/recent arrestee, Seth Keel, will be present to share their stories and launch us into a conversation and questions about the issues of diversity and inequitable educational opportunities that we have faced and continue to face in our public schools. Following this time of dialogue, around 6:30, we will observe a time of reflection in litany, prayer and silence, led by members of the Glendale Baptist youth. Please join us for a fascinating evening as we observe an important time in our Glendale history, address the social justice challenges of our own time, welcome the leadership of the next generation and share in the struggle for peace with sisters and brothers from a kindred community.
